About
A two-screen independent cinema in the centre of Wetherby, trading through Wetherby Film Theatre Ltd. The company was incorporated in May 2007 and is registered for motion picture projection activities; John Richard Hewitt and John Stuart Tate have been its directors since November 2018.
The building opened as a cinema in 1915, when George Crossley converted cottages on Caxton Street, and has traded as the Raby Picture House, the Rodney Cinema and, from 1965, a bingo hall, before returning to film in 1994. Wetherby Civic Society records an original capacity of 260, since reduced. Now trading as Wetherby Cinema, it says it has been "sharing stories since 1915" and has two screens of 53 and 32 seats, with a bar and lounge. The programme mixes new releases, arthouse and restored classics with live opera and ballet broadcasts.
