Complaints
Make a complaint
Tell us what went wrong. Pick the route that fits, or use the form on this page. A person reads every complaint.
In short
- Four routes. Pick the one that fits, or use the form.
- You get a reference and a private code, so you can check progress without an account.
- You do not have to give your email. You can stay anonymous.

A fact on a business page is wrong
Wrong opening hours, a wrong address, a business that has closed, or a page that should not be there at all.
-
It is about your personal data
Anything about information that identifies you. That includes how we dealt with a request to see, correct or delete it.
-
Something published is fake or false
A vouch, tip or answer that is fake, paid for, abusive or untrue. Or a business page that says something false about you.
-
Anything else
How we have treated you, a problem with the site, or something that fits nowhere else.
Send us a complaint.
Fill in the form. If you would rather write to us, email hello@bylocals.co.uk.
If something we published is false.
If a tip, a fact or an answer about you or your business is wrong, tell us. A report starts a check. It does not change a page by itself.
What to include
- The exact words, and where you saw them.
- Why they are wrong.
- How we can reach you.
- Whether we may pass your name and email to the person who wrote it. We will not share them unless you say yes.
We may hide a tip while we look into it. We may contact the person who wrote it. If we cannot check it, we will take it down.

You get a reference
When you send the form you see a reference and a private status code. Keep the code. It lets you check your case without an account. If you gave an email address, we send a confirmation too.
-
A person reads it
The page you see after sending shows the date we aim to reply by. We answer a complaint about personal data as quickly as we can, and we aim to do it within one month.
-
You can check progress
Use your status code on the case status page.
If you are not happy with our answer.

About your personal data
You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. It is the UK data protection regulator. It will usually expect you to have raised it with us first.

About anything else
Citizens Advice gives free advice on problems with businesses and websites.
How we handle personal data is in our privacy notice. Its section on complaints covers this route.
