What this can and can't answer
The assistant reads one thing: the published facts and profiles for the independence-checked businesses ByLocals holds. It cannot browse the web, it has no memory of you, and it is not permitted to assert anything that is not in that set. It can suggest a business by what it is and what its profile says — somewhere for dinner, a takeaway tonight, a grocer for the basics — and every sentence is checked against the facts behind it before you see it: one that cites nothing, or cites something we do not hold, is dropped rather than shown. The businesses an answer actually rests on are listed beneath it, each linking to the page that shows where its facts came from and when they are next due review.
It will refuse. If nothing genuinely fits, it says so and offers the closest categories we do hold, rather than assembling a plausible sentence out of nothing. If a hard fact has not been confirmed by the business itself, the answer names the business and says so. We do not answer medical, legal, financial or safety questions at all.
Nothing here is for sale. No business can pay to appear in an answer, to appear higher in one, or to be left out of one, and payment is not an input to the selection — there is no field for it in the record we keep of every answer. How this works.
